Tracking Your Traffic

Filed Under (List Building, Traffic) by Paul on 02-05-2009

The one thing all successful Internet Marketers will tell you is to track your traffic.

Why track your traffic

Ultimatly it will save you time, money and hours of frustration, after all there is little point advertising your squeeze page or sales pages where you are not getting a worthwhile return.

If you are running an ad campaign then by tracking your traffic you can identify the places your pages are running that are providing you with the best response. Therefore allowing you to dump the places that are showing only small or worse still no returns on your time and efforts.

How do you track your traffic

You can use a software application either hosted on your own hosting account or one hosted by a third party. There are several out there on the web that are free to use, being free often means that they can have limitations such as a reduced number of tracking pages or limited statistics avaiable. But they can still be very useful and you can always upgrade at a later date if you want to.

There are two third party applications that I use on a regular basis, and they are My Viral Surfer and Hits Connect. I do have accounts with others but these two are very effective.

My Viral Surfer

This program allows for plenty pages to be tracked with a free account, and will provide good stats on where your visitors are coming from to access your pages. My Viral Surfer also has plenty of other features you can make use of so sign up for free today and test it out.

Hits Connect

A free account allows you to track up to 10 campaigns, provides stats for daily, weekly and monthly hits. Tracks repeat visitors as well as unique visits, it even tells you what browser the visitor was using. It also includes a rotator for your campaigns and a banner rotator to allow you to rotate banners, this is a great advantage because you only have to go to one place whenever you want to change or add a banner.

By tracking your traffic you will know exactly where your clicks are coming from. This will then allow you to cut out the poorer performing ones and concentrate your efforts on the places that are producing results for you, letting you make efficient use of your time and advertising budget.
