Internet marketers know that Search engine optimization (SEO) is essential, and can be a determining factor whether you are in the 5% that succeed in making money online or not.
Many website owners spend a lot of time, money and effort improving their website ranking in the search engines. SEO helps make your website rank more highly in the search engine result pages, this allows you to get large volumes of traffic direct to your website from the search engines. The process involves both on page and off page SEO, and choosing the best keywords for your website content. Because of the importance of SEO, this article presents just some of the ways which you can use to optimize your websites pages for search engines.
1. Do your keyword research, select those words or phrases you are going to use. Then take your keywords and phrases and use them in your web content. That way when people are searching for keywords that relate to your website you can be found in the search engines. Optimizing your website in this way and using your keywords and phrases ensures that you get targeted visitors to your website.
2. When designing and building your website, make sure that your keywords are in your web page title and sub-headings. I also like to have them in the first and last sentence of my articles. Remember to set up your meta tags in your header, and use the ‘no index’ tag on your download pages. If you don’t know your meta tags then check out this article for a description of the various taglines.
3. You need to have high quality, and unique content on your website. The search engines can determine the origination of most content so avoid duplicate content, as this will result in your website being penalized by the search engines. Having fresh content means that your website will get spidered by the search engine robots more reguarly and indexed. This will get more visitors to your website because you have fresh, unique and useful content on your site.
4. Submit your website to website directories. This means that your website will be visible from search engines and people will easily find it. I prefer to submit to Google, the main search engine by hand. Submit your site to Google.
A better way is to create and submit a sitemap to Google, this will tell Google what pages exist on your website.
5. If your website is linked to other websites, the popularity of your website increases. Exchange links with other related websites. Create oneway links by submitting articles and participating in relevant forums and make sure that you include your website URL in your resource box. One way links are better than reciprocal links everytime. Get one way links free
6. Set up a blog and blog regularly using the keywords you found in step one for your niche. This will increase the ranking of your blog and website since search engines love blogs and will visit your blog regularly if you add fresh content on a regular basis. Need a free blog try Blogger, Googles own platform which should make sure you get indexed quickly.
These steps can help to increase your website ranking on major search engines. Follow them and see increased volumes of traffic coming to your website through organic links on the search engines. By doing these things you do not have to spend money on other advertising tools such as Pay Per Click (PPC). It is important that you start to optimize your website for the search engines today!
